  1. 1.  Jurgen HANEKOM, progenitor was born about 1688 in Rathlosen, Solingen, Germany; died about 1752 in South Africa.

    Notes:

    He personally signed his name as Jors Hannekoom and Jurgen Hannekom. Arrived at the Cape about 1708 from Rathlosen near Solingen, Germany. Lumberman 1708-1712, in 1713 he was promoted to Corporal, later free burger, lived on the farm "De Natte Valley" between Paarl and Stellenbosch, in 1750 to Cape Town where he submitted his certificate of membership of the Church ("Attestaat") on 9.12.1750.
    Ook gespel Jors Hannekoom en Hannekom van Rathlosen by Sulingen in Hannover, houtkapper 1708- 12, woon later as burger op die plaas "De Natte Valley", Drakenstein.

    Moves to Cape Town in 1750, where he submits his certificate of membership.

    (Research):On 8 December 1660 the Dutch East India Company's Ensign Jan Danckaert saw a sight which was to make a lasting impression on him : in a river valley in the interior there was a herd of about 300 grazing elephants, and for the remainder of his journey of exploration he was to call it the Olifants River. It was however only in 1725 that the first loan farm in the region, Modderfontein, was granted to Jurgens Hanekom.
