  He attended the school in Koln and entered a commercial apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main, where he could indulge in his love for music in his free time. He had much encouragement in this from the Offenbach relatives, the Andre family, the former Mozart publishers. For many years he was confidential clerk of the banking house Fink. As a sincere nature lover he was anxious to leave the metropolis and in 1890 he took a post as fund manager with a bank in Weimar. When this bank was taken over by the Magdeburg Private Bank, and then by the Commercial and Private bank, he became an independent director. After a major operation he had to relinquish his post, sold his house in Weimar and moved to Heidelberg where his daughter lived. Bankdirektor, Weimar
