  Arrived at the Cape in 1684 as soldier originally from Essen, burger 13.12.1687, initially lived at Stellenbosch but from 1694 farmed at Drakenstein !De Villiers Pama page 738 Heinrich was the progenitor (stamvader) of the Eckhoff family in South Africa. He was from Essen in the Rhineland, Germany. He arrived in the Cape in 1684 as a soldier. He became a citizen in 1687 and settled in Stellenbosch. [19]
