  He attended the industrial school in Chemnitz, studied in Stuttgart and Dresden and attained doctorates in engineering and chemistry. As such he entered the chemical factory "Society for Chemical and Metallurgical Production in Aussig. In 1915 he was called up for military service but was soon reclaimed for the factory.
