- He obtained his Abitur from the high school (Realgymnasium) in Barmen, then studied chemistry, physics and mineralogy in Freiburg and Heidelberg, where he was admitted to the Dr. phil. degree in 1904.
For the colouristic profession he was trained in the chemical-technical laboratory of Heinrich Thies, and from 1906 to 1014 he was active in the firm S.F. Goldberger & Sons in Budapest. In the war from 1914 to 1918 he served as reserve officer in the Train Battalion no. 7 later as captain.
From 1920-1921 he was colourist and deputy director of the firm S.Suckert Ltd. In Langenbielau, from1921-1933 Technical director with power of attorney in the Limited Company for Bleaching and Colour-Finishing in Augsburg, since 1 Oct 1933 technical director and leading chemist colourist in the firm Pongs & Jahn Ltd.
