- Sailor arrived at the Cape 1.4.1714 on the "Rijksdorp" from Norway. First of 23 Otto patriarch's (of which 20 came from the same area in Germany). Sailor in 1714, lumberjack 1716, farmer 1719. Obtained citizenship in 1719. Through his second marriage he acquired one quarter of the farm "Vergelegen", leter owning "Kleine Zwarte River" till 1727. In 1730 he lived on the farm "Krom Rivier" near Elgin.
SAG 7: Arrived at the Cape 1.4.1714 as sailor on the "Ryksdorp", superintendent of the lumbermen behind the "Steenberge", burger in 1719, owner of "Vergelegen", district Somerset West through two marriages, also "Kleine Zwarte River" to 1727 and in 1730 "Kromme River", district Elgin.

Will and Testament of Michiel Otto
Inventory of all such goods, movable and immovable, as by preceding testamentary disposition, dated 26 September 1742, before the First Sworn Clerk of the Court of Justice (Cape) Petrus Jesse Slotsboo and certain witnesses has been passed and which have been left at the death of the burgher Michiel Otto, for the benefit of his five children, by the names Michiel, Maria Regina age 16, Johanna Christina age 13, Anna Dorothea age 11, and Sophia Margaretha Otto age 9, born out of the marriage with Anna Margaretha Piek, who has been left and from whom he has been
separated by death.
The undersigned commissioned Orphan Masters found the following as specified:
1 Storehouse standing and situated in this Table Valley on Block FF on the smallest portion of No. 3.
2 A house and erf also in the Table Valley situated on Block MM, forming a portion of No. 3.
3 In the back room of the storehouse 1 Copper kettle; therein was found in cash the sum of 2330 Rixdollars, and 26 heavy Stuivers handed over to and under the responsibility of the Secretary.
