SACHS(E), JOACHIM (S).-Egeln near Magdeburg. Mentioned as burgher at Stellenbosch since 1691, owner of the farm β Sachsen-burg βon the Kuilsrivier"
N Susanna Holswig of Haszleben in Thuringia, who came out in 1691 with 4 children (names not
mentioned). S. repatriated 1705 with his wife and four children.
(Stellenbosch Arch., vol. 1021; CJ 1121 under 24.1
l.t692; Kolbe, I, p. 90; MR. Vrye Lieden 1695-98; C 503, p. 114; Leibbrandt. Letters desp. 16961708, p. 258.) Sachs&s children seem to have been Johann Paulus, Maria Margaretha, Mapa SibiUa and Peter Andreas, whose father was Johann Joachim Satihse, in 1716 resident at Quedlinburg. The birthplace of Johann Paulus is given as Magdeburg, that of the other three as Ciisten. Johann Paulus is probably identical with J. P. Saxe, who repatriated 1705 and asked to be allowed to work his passage home. (Leibbrandt, Letters dcsp. 1696-1708.
p. 288.) He returned 1706 as sa. and was loaned, 6.11.1706, as farmhand to his brother, Peter Andreas. (CJ 1125: 137.) He is mentioned as the brother of Maria Margaretha Sachsc in
Stellenbosch Arch., vol. 624 under 26.7.1708.
Peter Andreas Sachse (S Sachsc and Sachs) is mentioned as burgher at Stellenbosch in MR. Vryc Lieden of 1700. ~
