• Notes

  The three de Villiers brothers, Abraham, Pierre and Jacob arrived at theCape of Good Hope on May 6, 1689. They were Hugeunot refugees from LaRochelle, France, where they practiced viniculture. They were the founder fathers of the de Villiers families in South Africa. Farmer La Rochelle (in community with his brothers, Bourgogne, Picardie-La Brie). Arrived 6.5.1689 on the "Zion", probably from "Bourgondie" Hulle was Franse Hugenote wat in 1689 op die Zion uitgekom het saam met sy broers Jacob en Abraham. Hy het net dogters nagelaat. Van La Rochelle is hulle per skip na die Hollandse hawe Texel in Zeeland waar hulle toestemming verkry om Kaap toe te gaan. Hulle vertrek op die skip "Zion" op 8 Januarie 1689 met bykans geen besittings tussen hulle behalwe hulle klere en familie Bybels nie. Hy boer op La Rochelle saam met sy broers, op Bourgogne asook op Picardie-La Brie. Die egpaar de Villiers is volgens Pama II ongetwyfeld begrawe in die begraafplaas van die Rietdakkerk in Paarl. Pierre was a French Huguenot who arrived on the 'Zion' in 1689, with his two brothers Abraham and Jacob. Abraham had only daughters. Pierre and Jacob are theprogenitors of the De Villiers family of South Africa. Pierre married Elisabeth Taillefer, daughter of Izaak Taillefer, in 1694. They had 3 sons and 4 daughters. He farmed 'Bourgogne' in Franschhoek and 'Picardie' in Paarl.
