Notes |
- Hans was a burgher of Drakenstein.
He was a soldier in the VOC. On 17 Nov 1722 he was discharged from the army because of a physical disability.
On 31 Mar 1731 a case was discussed by the Politieke Raad in which he was involved. 10 Khoi bushmen (sons of Grebenau) had stolen livestock from him. They were followed and found by 12 burghers. The bushmen then fired on the burghers with arrows.
In the De la Fontein report ta comment was made that he could make a living from his livestock and farm, but not without owing debts. It was also mentioned that Frederik Huppenaar (his nephew) lived with him as servant.
One of the witnesses at his baptism was Hans Jurgen Grimpe, who arrived in the Cape in 1677 from Germany.
