  It is believed that the medical condition Huntingtons Chorea (which appears regularly in some Afrikaans-speaking families) can be traced back to her. The ancestors of more than 200 people currently suffering from this disease were investigated and can all be traced to the children of her 2 marriages. Surname is actually Schalk Van Der Merwe.
