  Liana is a descendant of the original owners of the Hermanus district in the Western Cape. Bernhardus Hermanus or Hermanus Bernhardus. Her husband Louis sends the following interesting anecdote: Liana stam af van Die Pieters Clan wat oorspronklik die Hermanus distrik besit het. Interessant: Haar pa was Inspekteur by die Mieleraad en het 'n paar jaar op Lichtenburg gebly, waar hy en my Oupa Louis politieke Aartsvyande was, tog, soos mens in daardie dae nog kon kry, met baie wedersydse respek vir mekaar as mens.
