• Notes

  Pieter moved from Riversdal to Lichtenburg with his family in 1898, where he settled on the farm Elandsfontein. At the age of 14, he and his family were held in the concentration camp at Mafeking. He farmed vegetables and in approximately 1917 he purchased a portion of the farm Manana where the first diamonds were later discovered. In spite of limited education, he was elected to the Provincial Council in circa 1944. He later became a founder member of the Transvaal Peri-urban Health Board.
