    Van Leeuwarden, aank omstreeks 1672, messelaar in diens van die HOIK. 1686 "opsiener van die kerkhof in Stellenbosch" 1697 opvolger van Oldeland as stadsingenieur. Hy was in Nederland getroud en sy seun Age is 11 Oktober 1661 in Leuuwarden gedoop. Hierdie seun het nooit na SA gekom nie. Hy sterf Maart of April 1700. Hy hertrou 19 Augustus 1685 Maria Lozee van onbekende herkoms. Sy hertrou 27 Februarie 1701 met Paul Heyns. Voor haar huwelik met Douw het sy 'n seun Jacobus gehad, vader onbekend wat later die van Steyn aanneem. Hy was egter nie 'n seun van Douw nie. Net Anna was 'n kind van hom.

    Notes:

    Jacobus is in effect the progenitor of this branch of the Steyn family in South Africa. His mother is from unknown descent and already had a son (Jacobus) before she married Douw in 1685. Jacobus later adopted the Steyn surname. He was a free burger and later a free butcher. De la Fonteine describes him in 1732 as a poor man. His stepfather arrived at the Cape about 1672 from Leeuwarden as bricklayer in the service of the H.O.I.K. and in 1686 became the caretaker of the cemetery of Stellenbosch.

    Douwe Gerbrandt Steijn's stepson, Jacobus (whose mother is Maria Lozee) took on the surname Steijn. Jacobus was baptised in 1683 (according to De Villiers) or 1685 (according to Heese) . If he was indeed baptised in 1685, there is a possibility that Douwe was his father and that it was a forced marriage. Jacobus Steijn married Marrietjie Pottegieter, or Maria Potgieter , or Maria Hermanz Potgieter on 1706.10.04. Douwe probably was her godfather. Their children were the following.     Maria baptised on 1707.08.14 by preacher le Boucq. Witnesses: Paulus Heijns and Maria Losee . Maria married Harmanus Kriel. Maria died 1724. Douwe baptised on 1709.01.20. Witnesses: Ge rrit Roomont and Anna Steijn Hermanus baptised on 1711.07.12. Witnesses: Johannes Harmanz Pot gieter and Beatrix Harmanz Potgieter. He was still alive in Swellendam in 1793. Sibella baptised 1714
    Maria baptised on 1727.09.21 After death of older Maria.

    Jacobus was the son of Maria Lozee (heritage unknown). His father was unknown. Maria married Douw Gerbrand Steyn in 1700 and Jacobus took the Steyn surname.

Jacobus was die seun van Maria Lozee en 'n ander man.
    Jacobus het die van Steyn aangeneem. Hermanus xx 1725-04-29 Elisabeth Anna Malan * 1701-11-30 + 1768. Sy is die tweede kind van die stamvader Jacques Malan en Isabeau le Long. Na Hermanus Kriel se dood 1739 is sy met Johann Caspar Schlee van Schlieben in Sakse getroud.
